MATCH REPORT   8/11/07

In strong winds and showers Carfield Y5 boys football team played two league matches at Dore Junior School.

The first match against Dore was a tight game with some good attacking from Carfield’s midfield trio of Oliver, Jorome and Ewan which saw some good early chances. A nice passing movement saw Josh come close to scoring and Jorome came even closer to scoring in the first half but his shot was blocked well by the keeper. The defensive duo of Christie and Noah worked well and kept Robert in goal a spectator for most of the match.

But late in the second half a mix-up after a corner gifted Dore a goal and it came too late for Carfield to respond.

Final score: Dore 1 – Carfield 0.

With no chance of a rest, the boys next opponents were Nether Green managed by ex Carfield teacher Mr Winson.

This was a tougher game as Nether Green had some very skilful players who passed the ball well and caused early problems. One early attack saw the striker through on goal and would have score but for a great save by Robert. The midfield had lots of hard word to stop the Nether Green attacks and Ewan excelled with several brave tackles and then breaking with the ball to start our own attacks. Dan joined the game and did incredibly well with some nice passes to link with Jorome and Oliver. One of those passes made an opening for a goal which just went wide. The first half ended with another fine save off his legs by Robert to keep Carfield in the game.

The second half was much like the first with both teams defending and attacking well… attractive end to end football. Carfield were now kicking with the wind and Oliver came close a number of times. Halfway through the second half Noah made a great challenge and then the ball broke up field and as it came loose, Jorome casually swung his right foot and the ball found the bottom corner of the net.

1-0 and only minutes to go saw Ewan drop back to help in defence and Josh came back on to keep the Carfield goal safe.  Full time and the boys secured their second win of the season.
